When it comes down to price and playability, Microsoft's XBox 360 is the better console over Sony's PlayStation 3.
It’s hard to miss the knock-down drag out fight within the latest generation of video game consoles. Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony are the frontrunners of the console war with their respective XBox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii.
Gaming Standards Set: XBox, PlayStation and GameCube
The console war seems especially drawn out because the latest generation of gaming consoles has been out for so long. Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s it seemed like almost every year a new must-have console was released.
Then the bar was set with Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo’s flagship consoles: Sony released its epic PlayStation 2 in 2000, Microsoft launched its foray into the gaming world with its XBox console in 2001 only to be met with Nintendo’s GameCube that same year. These consoles were all part of the sixth generation of gaming consoles.
Seventh Generation Gaming Consoles: 360, PS3, Wii
Microsoft officially launched the seventh generation console war with its XBox sequel, the XBox 360, in 2005. Nintendo followed suit with its revolutionary Wii console in 2006 along with Sony’s PlayStation 3 console in the same year. As we enter the battle’s 4th year, each console is still locked in a contest of features, price and games with one another.
Although the Wii definitively trounces the PS3 and XBox 360 in sales, their financial success is largely due to the Wii’s appeal to non-gamers. With far less advanced graphics and less complicated games, the Wii is somewhat ignored by more serious gamers who are locked in their own internal battle over the true best console: PS3 or XBox 360?
XBox 360 VS PS3: Price, Memory
Bottom Line: The PlayStation 3 costs about twice as much as the XBox 360. Both consoles come with several different hard drive space amounts (each with plenty for the average to serious gamer). The PS3, originally released in 20, 40, 60, and 80 gigabyte models, is currently available in the US in the 80 gigabyte version, which costs $399 total, and in the 160 gigabyte model, which costs $499.
The XBox 360 originally came either without a hard drive (known as the Core system) or in a 20 gigabyte model. Currently the console is available in an updated version of the Core (known as XBox 360 Arcade) for $199, in a 60 gigabyte mode known as the XBox 360 Pro for $299, and in the XBox 360 Elite model—120 gigabyte memory for $399, the same price as the 80 gigabyte PS3.
XBox’s Hardware vs PlayStation’s Hardware: Red Ring of Death vs Blu-Ray
PlayStation 3 comes out on top as having the better hardware between the two. By now, most in the gamer community are well aware of XBox 360’s infamous “Red Ring of Death”, the ominous console harbinger, which signals that the XBox must be sent away for repairs and will be out of commission for at least a month. The “Red Ring of Death” occurs on a reported 16% of all XBox consoles, according to an article on ShackNews about the XBox 360. According to the article, Microsoft contends that the failure rate is only at 3%.
While the hardware repairs are paid for through Microsoft’s warranty plan, it is still a hefty checkmark in the minus column for the 360.
Not only does the PlayStation 3 have no major hardware issues, but Sony, forecasting the popularity of an all-in-one media center, included a Blu-Ray player in all PlayStation 3 consoles. Since all-in-one media centers are the wave of the future and the 360 has such a high failure rate, the PlayStation 3 wins the hardware contest.
In conclusion, the XBox 360 is cheaper but with worse hardware. Check out XBox 360 Games vs PlayStation 3 Games for the next step in deciding which console to purchase.

I believe the Wii should not be classified as a 7 gen. system for the
fallowing reason. No hi def rendering. Without the glory of full hi
definition gaming,The Wii is really just the king of generation 6.
The Wii is fantastic though not the bargain everyone believes. After
puchasing all of the extras you could easily affored a ps3 or xbox
platnum. I see a console upgrade in Nintendo's futer.

In the next generation, it will be Nintendo vs. Microsoft because those two
companies are truly amazing. Sony has nothing innovative to beat those
other two. I hear 20% of the games for Playstation3 freeze and have scratch
marks too. Why isn't anyone talking about that flaw in PS3? PS3 is no good.
X-box 360 and Wii rule (have both consoles). I got to play PS3 for a bit
and I predict that they will stop making them in the next year or two. I
heard Sony is canceling some of their PS3's due to poor sales.

The Playstation 3 is better in hardware and looks and has a longer lifeline
than 360. 360 dies after a few months.

i honestly prefer the ps3. i look at it like this. which is more reliable,
has a good game line, hardware, and which has the best bang for the buck.
the 360 has alot of games in its line, and some great exclusives such as
gears and halo, but you have to pay for online. It also has a good online
store system such as netflix. Often has problems though and it either
overheats and blows up the CPU because Microsoft used shit crossbars
instead of using bolts to screw the mother board equipment down and there's
more problems than that. they just put mediocre equipment into the system.
The Wii is great for everyday gamers who are not hardcore, with its lack of
graphics and that the games are more towards everyone than hardcore gamers,
i cant really look at the system at the same level as the other two. The
PS3 on the other hand gives you reliability using good parts and hardware.
great menu its user friendly and simple. has its own sims game practically,
free online play, exclusives and great games (uncharted, little big planet,
killzone 2, resistance.) The graphics are superiour in a side by side
comparison of the two and overall it just impresses me so much more. the
online store is great, recently got in game music and comes wit wi-fi. and
most of them have reverse playback capibility so u can play ps2 and ps1
games. A huge plus. also has the blueray player. i have an original 20g, i
replaced the hard drive with a normal 250g laptop hard drive for 35$ not
that hard to get great memory. Overall the PS3 is far superior and with the
slim coming out and the price drop you really are getting so much more BANG
for your cash.

Sony Ps3 is better than Xbox 360 and others game, because the history of
Sony techn was not born on PS3, recalling it a long road back in photo
cameras, television and etc, Since childhood I always asked ' why does Sony
hi-fi is always expensive' and the answer was always it because of it's
high quality. No matter the price were quality lives people will follow. And no doubt that Ps3 is better than Xbox 360, I advise Gates should take
more time leading is boys to sucess in term of games, because it's name is
being used Microsoft and nothing can be seen, Ps3 still on top since Ps1,
and about it's new techn blue ray disc it has amazing quality. That's why
you should take look before taking bad about Sony remember in mobiles it
was the logo mark who survived in the introduction of iPhone. :-)

While the current generations of systems are currently out there sorting
out their differences, it is noticeable that the competition between the
7th generation of consoles is quite different than previous generations.
First off, in the days of Nintendo it was safe to say that more kids were
playing video games than adults. Now those kids are adults and they haven't
stopped gaming. The Wii has pretty much nestled into its own little niche.
It is a completely different experience than the PS3 or Xbox 360. It
proved that a console can sacrifice graphics for innovation. The PS3 and
Xbox360 though are still battling it out. In the previous generation
though I think it is safe to say that the PlayStation 2 was the best system
of them all. And possibly, it was the most successful and best system to
date. Its’ game catalog was incredible and is surprisingly (under the
radar) still growing. Not to mention it brought the DVD player into more
people’s homes therefore helping to outright kill the VHS format. The Xbox
did no such thing and early looks of the current generation; the PS3 is
bringing HD and Blu-Ray into people’s homes. Check out my blog at the
link below and let me know what you think. Is the PS2 the best ever? What
are the best PS2 games?
