According to the video game's designers, this release gives players the option to experience what it's like to have the upper hand during an alien invasion.
What geeky gamer has not had the fantasy after being pushed around the building of destroying the Earth and making everyone pay? Destroy All Humans for the Nintendo Wii, Playstation 2 and 3, and the Xbox 360 lets the geek or anyone else who has been pushed around by bullies blow off a little steam.
As far as game engaging in rampant destruction go, it is not the first of its kind. Microsoft's Mech Assault, done by the same Microsoft programmers that developed Crimson Skies, lets the player blow up many pieces of the scenery. While Mech Assualt and its sequel are serious in tone, the programmers of Destroy All Humans have have produced a light heartedand funny video game that imitates1950s camp style.
THQ, the makers of the Destroy All Humans video game seem to have done quite a bit of research by watching many of the old clichés in camp science fiction and horror films from the 1950s and early 1960s. If the player is looking for a game with a unique plot, Destroy All Humans does not fit the bill.
Fans of Mystery Science Theater 3000 may appreciate the game's intent which is to poke fun at these films. The game also shows us something that the films such as This Island Earth never did. What it is like to play the villain. The mission of the player is to remove the obstacles keeping the alien invasion force from invading Earth. In order to accomplish this, the player will take on the role of Crypto and use a variety of weapons common to films and pulp magazines of the 1950s and the low-budget science fiction films of the era.
The video game programmers of THQ have made a standard action game, with just enough violence to give the game a T rating, but not enough to give it an M rating. Nor is Destory all Humans restricted to one platform, although there is not yet a version out for the personal computer, but an Xbox emulator can solve this problem for the person who does not have a console system but wants to play Destroy All Humans can find an Xbox emulator.
The video game designers at THQ for Destroy All Humans may not have given us the most creative concept in existence, but for good cheesy fun it is an excellent choice and a must have for any video game fan who enjoys campy 1950s science fiction and video games at the same time. No actual humans were harmed in the writing of this article.
