The makers of World of Warcraft are set to release one of the longest awaited sequels in video game history in 2008. Can it live up to its marketing?
Blizzard is set to unleash two new and highly anticipated titles in December 2008, according to EBGames website. Stracraft holds a unique place in the history of real time strategy games, because Starcraft has been continually published since its release and still turns a small profit.
The popularity of the Starcraft and continued sales did not give Blizzard a reason to make a sequel. That changed when Blizzard announced the release of Starcraft II. Fans of real-time strategy games had long awaited this announcement.
The plot of the original Starcraft centers around the Zerg, an insect-like alien race. The Terran missions center around rebellion and the abduction of Kerrigan by the Zerg, and the Protoss's overreaction to the existence of the insect-like creatures.
The Protoss and the rebel Terrans fight for the same goal, but their methods put them at odds. Unknown to the rebel humans is that the training the Terran psychic units known as Ghosts attracts the insect-like Zerg. As a player competes the missions in the original real-time strategy game, he must control units of the Terran, the Zerg and the Protoss armies.
Blizzard did not know what it unleashed when it gave gamers the chance to experience the Starcraft universe. Warcraft and its sequels had proven that the real-time strategy video game genre was a viable PC game genre, but the original Starcraft continued to sell steadily years after its release. Copies of the original game can version of Starcraft can still be bought new.
More details about the Star Craft II real time strategy are becoming available as the game nears its release dated.. Many of the familiar units like the Vultures, the zerglings, and the Dark Templars are returning, but a few new units whose details have not yet been released are included in Starcraft II.
As with the Starcraft real time strategy game, a player will have to play all three factions in order to experience the full story line. The release, scheduled for April or June depending on the source quoted, promises to be one of the most anticipated PC game sequels.
