Now, the Soul Calibur IV release date is almost upon us. Soul Calibur IV will be released on July 29th, 2008 for the XBox 360 and Playstation 3 and expectations of the game are running higher and higher with each new screenshot that is shown touting Soul Calibur IV's anticipated release.
Soul Calibur IV will feature much of the same high-intensity, flashy, dramatic and over-the-top weapons fighting action that fans of the series have come to know and love, but what really has gamers and the Internet in general buzzing about the Soul Calibur IV release date is the inclusion of Yoda and Darth Vader as playable characters in the game from the ever-popular Star Wars movie universe this time around.
Both Yoda and Darth Vader fight with lightsabers so it is only natural that they would compare well to the fighters that are already in Soul Calibur IV. The special effects produced by other weapons in the Soul Calibur series are actually quite comparable to what a light saber typically produces in a Star Wars movie. Yoda and Darth Vader continue the tradition of special guest characters that was started back in Gamecube, Playstation 2, and XBox versions of the game Soul Calibur II.
New characters aren't the only intrigiuing feature in Soul Calibur IV, however. Just about every fighting game comes out and features new character additions. Soul Calibur IV's big draw will be its new online play ability, which many people thought would be exceedingly difficult to pull off considering the impressive visuals and fast-paced game play of the Soul Calibur series. But Soul Calibur IV will bring online play with it on the release date (July 29th) and fans are dying to test their skills in online combat on both the XBox 360 and Playstation 3.
Character customization, online leaderboards, and a newbie-friendly online setup are believed to be pertinent features in this new online mode. Only time will tell how well the online play will run and how smoothly the interface will work, however. Many 3D online fighters have struggled in the past when it comes to online play.
One final big feature players will see on the Soul Calibur IV release date if they happen to purchase the game is the critical attack. This attack will break through an opponent's guard and stagger them for a little while, giving the attacking player in Soul Calibur IV the ability to inflict a critical hit on their opponent.
All of these new features should combine to make the Soul Calibur IV release date a happy day for fighting game fans who've been starved for a quality new game for the XBox 360 or Playstation 3 a very happy day indeed. And for fans of the Star Wars flicks, Soul Calibur IV might be worth getting just to play as highly-polished versions of Yoda and Darth Vader, two of the movies' most beloved characters.
