Without a lot of add-ons and downloads, the ordinary day-to-day gameplay in the Sims can get tedious. A few basic cheats and tricks can spice up your Sims experience.
Just as your Sims need to maintain their relationships with other Sims, you the player need to revitalize your gaming experience when the initial passion fades away. Are the Andersons boring today? Is Jimmy stuck in college? Or maybe you’re having trouble getting Mercedes her next WooHoo partner. What’s a gamer to do?
Expansion anyone?
The makers of the Sims, EA Games and Maxis, are clever people. For both the Sims the original and the newer and improved Sims 2, there are a variety of expansion packs available for purchase that may just provide players with the extra kick they need. If Harry Anderson can take a vacation with his family (or without them if you prefer) things suddenly get interesting again.
Available expansion packs for the Sims 2:
University: Send your pesky teenagers to college.
Nightlife: Turn a boring Sim into a vampire, but be careful of the sunlight!
Open For Business: Start a home business and watch as the customers complain about the untrimmed hedges lining the walkway to the Anderson’s house.
Pets: Mrs. Anderson and the cat can bond and the kids can complain that Fido stinks.
Seasons: At the college you can watch Jimmy fight with the prank-pulling mascot cow.
Bon Voyage: Send Mr. Anderson to Twikki Island and let him learn to fire-dance.
Free Time: Let Jimmy tinker with the stereo in his college dorm hall until he electrocutes himself.
Apartment Life (not yet released): Let Jimmy and his girlfriend Jane enjoy cramped quarters like a can of sardines. Watch as Jimmy and Jane fight over the bathroom and wave at you rather than walking around to use the other door.
A solution that’s easier on the wallet: Cheating
Sometimes a little cheating goes a long way. Although some cheats are dangerous and can crash the game or inadvertently kill a Sim, many cheats are harmless and helpful. Mercedes has work tomorrow and she’s tired, but you’d really like her to WooHoo with Pollination Technician tonight. To cheat your way out of this frustration, hit Cntrl+Shift and the letter C at the same time. At the top of your screen a small line of text will appear. Type maxmotives and all the Sims on your lot, including pets if you have them and your guest Pollination Technician will feel great.
A few fast cheats:
Maxmotives: Enter this cheat as one word and not capitalized. The cheat sets all of your Sim’s needs into the green.
Motherlode: This cheat gives your family $50,000.
Aging on: Allows your Sims to age.
Aging off: Stops the aging process for your Sims. No one on your lot will age.
Moveobjects on: Please note that the on/off part of this cheat is a separate word. Allows you to move or delete anything, including the skunk that comes around trying to spray the Anderson’s pets.
Moveobjects off: Returns the game to normal. Turning off the moveobjects cheat is important because while it is on you may accidentally insert a Sim into a window or other object.
Exit: You may need this to close the cheat window if you mistype and enter a cheat.
Still not enough?
As a last resort you may change up your gaming style. Try something new with your Sims. Break up a home by having Mr. Anderson find someone new on Twikki Island. Let Mrs. Anderson sleep with the male maid and have his baby right under Mr. Anderson’s nose just to see what happens. Sick of Jimmy and his college? Buy a flame blower and roast marshmallows over it. Nothing sets your heart racing like seeing Death arrive on your lot. The best part of the Sims is that it isn’t real life and let’s face it, no one’s going to miss Jimmy, but his ghost will be entertaining.
