Players new to vampires might be in for some surprises as they play. This article reveals how to keep a vampire sim healthy, how to have some fun, and how to make more.

Vampires are easily created within the Sims 2 universe; they are likely the simplest paranormal creature that players can make on the Sims 2. However, vampires make up for their easy creation by being one of the most difficult to play.

Vampires can be boring because they do not age and their motives do not decay during the night. These two facts can make vampires difficult for any gamer.

Vampires and Daylight

Contrary to some of the more recent films and literature regarding vampires, sim bloodsuckers are still restricted to the night. They must sleep in a coffin too, so players have to be ready to buckle down and spend their sim’s hard-earned cash (unless the player cheated for it) on an expensive coffin. The vampire will sleep through the day, but sometimes they will pop out of their coffin and if the player isn’t watching the vampire might die before they can get back to the safety of their coffin.

It is not safe for a vampire to be out during the daytime at all, not even if the afflicted sim is inside. This poses some obvious problems in sending the sim to class or to work. While the vampire is working or in class their motives will stop dropping, providing one small relief for players to give thanks for. But the walk from the sim’s home to the car can nearly kill them.

To combat this, players should learn a simple, easy cheat to keep their vampires alive long enough for them to get off the lot. Press Ctrl+Shift+C to bring up the cheat text at the top of the screen. Then type maxmotives all in one word. This cheat will raise the vampire’s motives back to full, saving them just long enough from certain death by UV radiation.

Fun Vampire Stuff

A few things that vampires can do in the Sims 2 that help combat their annoying photophobia. Vampires have the ability to fly around as a bat. Click on a place and select Fly Here and the vampire sim will turn into a bat and flay there. Players can also select a new option under Irritate. Click on any other sim and select Irritate then bleh!! The vampire will approach the other sim and scare them. This interaction often causes the non-vampire sim to lose bladder control.

Another interesting fact to note: Players can have one sim that is both a werewolf and a vampire. Although this is possible, players are warned that it may not be a good idea. Werewolf-vampire hybrids are not immune to the sun.

Making More Vampires

Once one vampire has been made the player has the freedom to use that vampire to create more by biting others. Unlike with werewolves, which can Savage any random sim as long as that sim is in the same age category, vampire sims must have a high relationship with another sim before they can bite him or her. The tradeoff here is that in a family of vampires a mother or a father can bite a teenaged sim and turn him or her into a vampire while a werewolf sim cannot because of the age difference.
