Sims 2 Pet GhostsDogs and Cats Haunt After DeathDec 17, 2008 Rachael Shoemaker
Just as Sims haunt after they die, pets have ghosts that can cause mischief. This article covers what to expect from them and how to get rid of them.
For fans of the Sims 2 that have the expansion pack The Sims 2: Pets players will be able to acquire dogs and cats for their sims and raise them from being puppies or kittens into adult dogs and cats. Like sims the pets age and eventually they will die. Death arrives for pets as promptly as he does for sims and leaves a smaller headstone behind or an urn if the pet died inside. The players sims will mourn the animal’s passing like a real family, and perhaps the player will too. Players can, however, rejoice! The pet is not truly gone. Pet Haunting: Pet Ghosts in Sims 2If the player leaves the deceased pet’s urn or headstone on the lot and continues playing, eventually the pet will spring out of it and begin to haunt the lot. Unlike sim ghosts, which are color coded to reveal the way that they died, pets are only gray or transparent. Pet ghosts are invisible to sims normally, though living pets on the lot experiencing the haunting growl, hiss, or bark at them. Pet ghosts do not frighten living pets, but if the player commands a controllable sim to cross the path of the pet’s ghost often enough the ghost will manifest itself in front of the sim and frighten him or her by barking or yowling. The ghosts of sim pets sometimes inhabit furniture. For example a chair outside may shake when a ghost dog leaps into it, or a hot tub might bubble and froth seemingly of its own accord. Typical behavior for the ghost of a pet is benign and far less annoying than a sim’s ghost. While sim ghosts cruise around the lot and often disturb sleeping sims, waking them up to frighten them, pet ghosts generally stay in the yard and howl or dig holes. How Often Will the Ghosts Haunt? The game appears to regulate haunting on a lot between pet and sim ghosts. If one lot has multiple graves on it of deceased sims and pets together, the player will experience nights where two ghosts of any species may roam about the lot, disturbing the living sims and frustrating the player. However, there will be nights, even long strings of nights when the ghosts will not appear at all. Getting Rid of Pet or Sim GhostsA haunting may be fun at first, but if the player is fond of killing pets and sims the ghosts will start to add up, and the deceased and the living tend to disagree with each other. A living sim will have difficulty sleeping if a ghost is wandering through his or her bedroom. Traditional gameplay will become difficult. If the player has sims without jobs and responsibilities and doesn’t mind letting his or her sim sleep through the day only to get spooked throughout the night, then ghosts are not a problem. If this is not the case the graves can be moved easily, and because the ghosts are tied to their graves permanently, this will remove the haunting problem. Simply click on the headstone or urn of the deceased pet or sim and select Move This Grave.
