This is a beginner’s overview of boolprop. This article and all other articles concerning the boolprop cheats were researched using the Sims 2 by Maxis and EA Games with the latest available (as of June 2008) expansion packs installed up to The Sims 2 Free Time. Readers are advised that the boolprop menus and abilities mentioned in this article will differ slightly from older versions. Please note that with every expansion pack boolprop changes.
A Short introduction
Boolprop was used by the creators of the Sims 2 to test the game. That is why the cheat is vastly different from cheats like motherlode, which only produce one outcome
You may come to know boolprop by another name after using it a few times: Shift-clicking. After enabling the boolprop cheat, a player can access the testing menus by holding the Shift key and clicking on their Sims, the mailbox, or the newspaper. Doing this brings up a maze of choices in a new menu, some of which hardly appear to be in English. Using these once-hidden menus you can do nearly anything.
For Example, Player Can Instantly:
- Make your Sim a vampire or werewolf
- Kill a Sim
- Age your Sim
- Make your Sim fat, thin, or fit
- Plan your Sim’s outfit
- Graduate your Sim from college
- Get any specific job from the newspaper
This list is only a fraction of the things that boolprop/Shift-clicking allows players to do, but there are pitfalls alongside the gems.
Warning: Please Boolprop Responsibly
As a rule players should save or backup frequently while using boolprop. The testing cheats create and encourage glitches and game crashes. Personal examples gained in the research of this article include:
- Sims skipping across the screen (moving instantly across the lot)
- Slow game speed
- Missing objects in a cinematic
- Game crashes
- “Object Errors” while loading a lot or a neighborhood
- Boolprop failure (when something under the testing menus never works or fails to work as it has before)
Also, never select Force Error or Force Kill under the Shift-click/boolprop menu. Remember that these cheats were created to test the game and many of them appear as if they do not work at all, but if you value your Sims please restrain your curiosity. Commands like Debug Toggle FBA On seemingly do nothing, but because you are probably not one of the creators of the Sims 2, it’s best to tread carefully.

Please note that some players say that the boolprop cheat must be entered in the neighborhood, but in the writer’s personal use of this cheat it must be entered on a house lot or it will not work. It’s best to test it to see which works best for you.
Press Ctrl+Shift+C to access the cheat text at the top of the screen. Type boolprop testingcheatsenabled trueTo turn off boolprop, type boolprop testingcheatsenabled false. Hold Shift and click on Sims, the mailbox, or the newspaper. Also note the number in the upper right hand corner of the screen. While it is present you will be able to drag your Sims needs at will and adjust their relationships or give them skill points they didn’t really earn.
