Non-gamers can play video games online to pass the time, but when they get hooked - which they will - they can rent or buy their favorite games, online as well.

Everyone needs a bit of distraction to de-stress and escape into a world of pure fantasy. What better way to do that than to sneak away from responsibilities for 30 minutes to play video games online or on a game console?

The reality is that the 30 minutes so easily turn into an hour which then morphs into 2 and 3 hours without the gamer having any concept of time passing by - getting hooked on video games is easier than spelling addict, even for those who don't regard themselves as the gamer "type". How getting hooked works, is another story.

Online Video Games for the "Older" Generation

1980-games.com is a paradise for the older computer generation who remember getting into fierce battles with Pac Man, Donkey Kong and Mario Brothers. This site also has around 800 Nintendo Video games and a top 10 list with favorites that include Prince of Persia, Streetfighter, Sonic and the old standby, Tetris.

New Online Games Daily

Addictinggames.com seems to add new online games daily. Choose between Action and Sport Games, Puzzle & Board Games, Arcade Games, Shooting or Strategy Games and many more. For those who are indecisive, go to the What’s Hot section and play the popular ones. A very wide range with links to other sites as well for those who are truly hooked.

Music-Based Games

Some video games are actually creating a wave of change in the gaming industry. Downloadable tunes for music-based games "Guitar Hero", "Rock Band" and "SingStar" have exposed a new generation of youngsters to classic rock.

Song downloads for MTV Games and Harmonix's "Rock Band" - which allows gamers to thrash with friends both online and in-person on various faux instruments, including a drum set - recently passed the 12 million mark, according Paul DeGooyer, MTV senior vice president of electronic games and music.

Soon (end June), game publisher Activision and developer Neversoft will be releasing "Guitar Hero: Aerosmith," the first play-along rhythm game pegged to one music group.

"The game is really about the spirit of guitar music," Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton recently told the Associated Press. "It's all about being into music that sounds powerful, energetic and lush. You're rhythmically pushing buttons that create a certain reaction or sound along with the music.”

Rent or Buy Video Games Online

Some just don’t want to play video games online. Well there are other options – they can always rent or buy video games online for their game consoles - PS3, PS2, Xbox 360, Wii, PSP, Xbox, GameCube, Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance.

But many prefer to first try out the game before cash changes hands. That way gamers can get the feel of a whole range of games before they settle on their favorites. And for new inductees to the hallowed halls of gaming, rental is a good option until they find their niche.

According to reports, Numbthumb.com is one of the better rental places with good rates , special offers and opportunities for video games rental, not only in the USA but also in the United Kingdom and in Canada with over 4000 titles to choose from.
