In the unique game world of an MMO there is a unique language that can identify a player as a gamer or an outsider. Knowing common terms can be an advantage in the game.

Massive Online Adventures create a unique world. For new gamers this can be easy to join but difficult to feel comfortable in gameworld’s surroundings. This is, in part, because the game world has its own language. Understanding what to say and when to say it can instantly enable a player to blend into the game universe. There are some common terms that can help new players sound like pros.

General MMO Terms

During a player’s life in the game world, another player will ask about skills and abilities. Understanding the terms can help with interactions and possibly create a new game friendship.

  • HP-Health Points. This is the amount of life of the player. The higher a player’s HP the more damage the player can withstand before receiving a game death.
  • STR-Strength. This is related to the amount of damage a player can cause an enemy. Adding items and equipment can have a positive or negative effect on this stat.
  • Spell Power. This is important for characters that use magic. The higher the number the more damage the character can do against an enemy.
  • Pull. This is the action to attract an enemy to the individual or group. This is done to avoid larger groups or exposing the player to a dangerous area.
  • XP. This stands for experience points. Using these points, a player can tell others how long before he increases in level.

Character MMO Terms

Within the game world players will have specific duties and roles.

  • Tank. This is a character that can live through a lot of damage. This individual will have powerful armor and a lot of HP. In the game world, this individual will have a defensive role in a group. This individual is also a direct fighter and pulls the enemies to the group.
  • Caster. A character that uses spells and avoids direct contact falls into this category. A Caster can be a powerful attacker but does not have the armor or HP of a tank. A player in this role will usually attack from behind a tank in relative safety.

Communication MMO Terms

  • AoE-Area of Effect. This is used for spells or attacks that damage more than one monster at the same time. The bigger the area of effect the more individuals will be damaged.
  • Lol-Laugh out Loud. Used during communication with another human player. This shows that the player finds a comment funning and is a polite way to express the feeling.
  • MT-Mistell. When talking to the wrong person or when something is said different from what is intended MT tells the other player about the mistake.
  • TY-Thank You. Used to express appreciation to another individual for any assistance or gift.

The unique worlds found in MMOs can offer an exciting experience but some interactions can be a little intimidating to new players. Gaining knowledge about the game and mastery over the player abilities helps to separate gamers from new players. Communication is also important in gaining new allies in the game world.

Talking like a pro is only the first step in gaining a game pro status. There is no problem with reviewing game tips for an MMO in order to gain a greater understanding of the game world. No matter the role the player decides, fun is always the name of the game.
