Gamers all over the world are practically salivating for the new Grand Theft Auto to hit shelves.
With delays in the past and with each passing day, gaming fans are getting geared up for a little Grand Theft Auto. Grand Theft Auto 4, that is.
Set to be released on April 29th, GTA IV is currently one the most anticipated games of the year, if not the most anticipated. Originally it was one of the most anticipated games of 2007, having a previous release date of October 16, 2007. The game's developers, Rockstar North, a division of Rockstar Games, revealed that they needed more time for the GTA IV's development. The majority of gamers were upset by the delay, but overall glad Rockstar was taking the extra time to make sure the game was the best it could be.
More recently, a rumor began that EA Games had plans to buyout Grand Theft Auto's distributor, Take-Two Interactive. Shortly after it was revealed to be more than a rumor when EA made it's intentions clear. Speculation began that EA planned to buyout Take-Two and push back the release of GTA IV until the 4th quarter of 2008. Although it seems that there will be no delay, some gamers are holding their breath, dreading any news of set back.
Some veteran gamers that have been played the other Grand Theft Auto titles are recommending that people who want a copy of the game should get it the day it arrives on shelves. The popular series has been threatened with being pulled off the shelves many time. More so in Europe and Australia than in North America. In fact, an edited version of the latest GTA will be sold in Australia.
The game's single player story is centered around a character named Nico who has just arrived in America from overseas. He decides to make his start in Liberty City, loosely based off of New York City, where his cousin lives. The story line will take Nico, and the player, from small time crime straight to the top of the chain, with plenty of action in between.
Possibly what makes the newest Grand Theft Auto so desired is addition of multi-player game play. Multiplayer options have not been seen in a Grand Theft Auto game since it was only available on the PC. Online modes will feature the traditionaldeath match as well as team death match , race modes, co-operative missions and a very interesting mode called Cops and crooks. Cops and crooks splits the players onto two teams, one the cops, the other the crooks. The crooks have to find their way through the city to an escape point, usually a boat or helicopter, and the cops have to stop them. The catch is that the crooks can only see the escape point, and not the cops. The cops can see the crooks, but not the escape point.
Rockstar North has packed what some would say is 4 or 5 games worth of enjoyment into this latest installment of Grand Theft Auto. Come April 29th, this game will be flying off the shelf.
