Add cool new video games like the popular Ghostbusters or de Blob to the kids' collection this holiday season and get the whole family together for a virtual adventure.

The Nintendo Wii is named as The Top Christmas Gift of 2009 by Squidoo and many families probably already own one, so what better to buy as a Christmas present for the kids than new games to go along with it? Check out the hottest top five Wii games for kids (which have the potential of becoming all-time Wii game favourites ) with impressive graphics and great fun to keep them entertained for hours.

Ghostbusters

Ghostbusters is packed with fun with a well-paced mix of combat, spirit scanning and puzzle solving. The game is only about five hours long but has a quick pace and keeps players entertained from the beginning to the end.

The game is funny with script written by original film scribes Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd. Players can choose either a male or female avatar and join the Ghostbusters team as a rookie. Other members of the team are voiced by the stars of the movies: Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson.

The best part of Ghostbusters is fighting ghosts using a proton pack which has a number of different firing modes like green goo, boson dart and more. Once the ghost’s health bar decreases, players can attack it using the Wii Remote in the direction indicated onscreen and then move it over a trap where it's automatically sucked in.

Boom Blox Bash Party

This game created by Electronic Arts and Steven Spielberg features a large variety of modes, puzzles and blocks with a strong level of creation and support sharing. Boom Blox Bash Party is an upgrade of last year's Boom Blox. Problems.

The Boom Blox formula is easy to learn because the goal is always nearly the same, which is to destroy blocks. However, there are more than 400 levels on how to destroy them to choose from. Each level has a specific aim like knocking down a number of blocks within a time limit or collecting as many points as possible in a limited number of turns. It circles around destruction gaming including knocking down certain blocks with baseballs or bombs and the new additions bring a lot of variety to the game and more challenging puzzles.

Animal Crossing: City Folk

Animal Crossing: City Folk has the foundation of previous Animal Crossing games and its amusing dialogue and characters gives players an opportunity to start a new life in this version all over again.. The Wii Remote pointer and motion controls can be used for handling tools, such as axes, slingshots, fishing rods and bug-catching nets. Players live in individual houses spread apart from each other and each town begins with six animal residents and can grow to a maximum of ten.

The players can celebrate as time leads up to many real world holidays such as Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Thanksgiving, Easter, Father's Day, Mother's Day and Halloween. The city is a new area added to the game and players can go there by taking a bus from town.

de Blob

This refreshing and creative video game brings out the inner artist as players paint the town into a spectrum of colors. The game is a series of movies about Blob who joins forces with Raydians, a diverse and colorful people, to save Chroma City from dull black and white dictorial Graydians through the resistance movement called Color Underground.

The main aim of each level is to paint part of Chroma City and gradually free the city from the colorless INKT Corporation. The color energy level increases with painting, and a certain total must be reached before opening the gate to the next. Although there's a timer in Story mode, it is not a high-pressure game and players usually have enough time to leisurely complete each section.

Excitebots Trick Racing

This Excite game follows the series Excite Truck but this time around it doesn't feature trucks or bikes. Instead, players control animal-like robots which can quickly transform shape as they speed around a series of courses. The controls are tighter than before and there are many types of new surreal mechanics and modes.

Those who have played Excite Trucks before probably already have a firm grasp on the foundation for Excitebots Trick as it uses the same engine and the same visual style but with a range of entertaining surprises including some of the new vehicles as frogs, spiders and bats which can change form in certain situations. For example, a vehicle transforms into one running on two legs and is able to grow a top-arm which can hit a home run, or pull out any other surprising tricks.
