Free MiniGolf Game for the iPhone and iPod TouchMini Golf Wacky Worlds Free Brings a Little Fun to the App Store
Mini Golf Wacky Worlds Free is a fun little mini golf game for mobile links fans. Its nine holes provide a quick challenge, making it a perfect teaser for the full game.
Glu Mobile's Mini Golf Wacky Worlds Free provides a nice, cartoon-like take on mini golf for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The free version of the game is limited to only nine holes, but that should be more than enough for most users to judge whether the game is worthy enough to purchase the full version. Game Features
Cartoon Tigers on the Mini LinksThe free version of Wacky Worlds has a minimal setup, allowing the user to get right into the game. The only option before hitting the course is whether or not to turn on the game's sounds. At the beginning of each new hole, the user is treated to a flyover highlighting the hazards and otherworldly scenery of Wacky Worlds. Some holes look like they are cartoon versions of a Roger Dean album cover with floating planets and stars aplenty. Wacky World's gaming interface is pretty simple. Simple finger swipes are used to position the golfer and aim their shot. One more swipe sets the power level and then a final tap sends the shot on its way. It works decently enough, but one would have liked more effective use of the multi-touch interface in shot-making. The button-based interface is probably an artifact of Glu Mobile's position as a top cell phone game development company, not necessarily an iPhone focused development shop. A Fantasy Island of Mini GolfThe hole design in Wacky Worlds features more of a fantasy feel than that of an official Putt-Putt course. Pretty much every hole's design would make Rube Goldberg proud, with a plethora of mechanical and animal hazards and targets to hamper or assist the golfer in getting a low score. Of particular annoyance are the ubiquitous ladybugs who seem to enjoy blocking one's shot, or worse yet, picking up the golf ball and dropping it in some worse spot elsewhere on the hole. Since Wacky Worlds does provide some semblance of real golf, the hole's par is listed on the top left of the screen, with the current hole score on the top right. The golfer on the free version is a well-endowed Barbie look-alike who performs a dance after holing out based on how one did on the hole; apparently no Chippendale option exists for female game players. The golfer's cumulative scorecard is displayed at the end of each hole. The Price is RightConsidering the price is free, Wacky Worlds Mini Golf Free is worth checking out if one is a fan of mini golf. Golfers who like a little more depth and less cartoon action with their golf would do well to check out many other options available on the App Store. Interested iPhone users should also check out other Suite101 profiles of a free racing game and some free music apps and a free music synthesizer for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
