This article reveals the top five games set for early release on the Xbox 360.
There will be many new releases in 2009, but these are the ones worth pre-ordering and queuing for in the first few months of the year: FEAR 2- Project OriginThe original FEAR was an excellent horror-themed first person shooter (FPS) with some nice bullet-time effects and a cracking multiplayer. This game is a continuation of the terrifying tale of Alma, a spectral entity bent on destruction and will feature a new hero- Michael Becket- a Delta Force operator, who will end up with similar powers as the first FEAR’s Point Man. Projected release date: February 13, 2009 Read more about FEAR 2: Project Origin here. Street Fighter IVFans of the venerable old fighting game will be rejoicing as the arcade classic makes a return to the small screen. All the usual characters will also make a return, including Ryu, Chen and Chun Li, but they will be joined by new characters including French battler Abel and the sultry Crimson Viper. Combat will be rendered in 3D, while still retaining the familiar 2D backgrounds of the arcade game, along with the complex controls and several new moves, including a hotly-anticipated ‘focus attack’ dynamic Projected release date: Febuary 20, 2009 Read more about Street Fighter IV here. Halo WarsTaking a different tangent to the now-famous Halo brand, Halo Wars brings Bungie’s universe into the realms of the real time strategy (RTS) genre. Taking the yoke is Ensemble Studios, co-creator of the familiar Age of Empires series, who will be bringing the small-scale battles of Halo’s 1-3 to life from an isometric perspective. The game is set 20 years before Halo: Combat Evolved, and chronicles the adventures of the UNSC Spirit of Fire as the crew make first contact with the monstrous Covenant and probably lose- as they are not included in any of the subsequent Halo canonical games or books. The game will offer two playable factions, the UNSC and Covenant, and will feature all the familiar units and vehicles, combined with the sound effects and epic music that Halo fans have come to know and love, as well as online multiplayer for aspiring generals all over the world. Predicted release date: February 26, 2009. Read more about Halo Wars here. Final Fantasy 13After the release of The Last Remnant, anticipation for the next true game in the Final Fantasy series is running at fever pitch. The game’s plot is still mostly under wraps, but leaks have revealed that it takes place on a planet called Pulse, and involves a floating city called Cocoon and a race of higher-beings called the fal'Cie. Battles will feel a lot more traditional this time, with the Active Time Battle (ATB) making a return, along with the summoning attacks and a new twist on the strategy patented in The Last Remnant. The graphics are also expected to be stellar; pushing the next-gen consoles to the limit of their chip-set’s capability. Though the release date is also heavily disputed, Play.com places is around the end of March, 2009. Read more about Final Fantasy 13 here. Resident Evil 5After the success of Resident Evil 4, RE5 was always going to be a dead-cert for the 2009 line-up. This time, rather than travelling to a remote island, RE5 sees returning character Chris Redfield reveal his adventures as part of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance in the ten years since the events of the original Resident Evil. Despite the controversy over Resident Evil 5's setting, the game will feature all the usual zombie-blasting, with the twists and turns of the storyline driving it all along at a high pace. Online co-op multiplayer with the other playable character- Sheva Alomar- will add a new dynamic to the familiar style and bring Resident Evil back for another terrifying adventure. Predicted release date: March 13, 2009 Read more about Resident Evil 5 Here. Read more gaming articles here.
