Despite its introduction to the market approximately two years ago, the Nintendo Wii -- popular with adults and children alike -- remains hard to locate for purchase.
The Nintendo Wii provides a gaming experience unlike traditional video games. Providing a video game platform that simulates real physical activities and gets players off the couch and into the action. Yet, despite its years on the market, it remains so popular that it often flies off store shelves within hours of delivery. Thus, those looking to purchase a Wii should consider how increase the odds of finding this often elusive game console. Traditional Chain Store PurchasesChain electronics stores, such as Circuit City and Best Buy, provide a logical choice for locating products such as the Nintendo Wii. These stores also often provide the opportunity for customers to try some games prior to purchase. Being the logical first step for many, however, new shipments of the Wii console -- though regular and continuous -- are often gone on the day of arrival. To better odds of locating an in stock Wii, customers should consider on-line purchases when available or utilizing these store's on-line inventory to determine which nearby locations have the units in stock. If an in-stock Wii is located, it can be purchased on-line for pick-up at the local store. This method eliminates the risk of traveling across town to find that the Wii that was in-stock when the customer left home has since been purchased. Buying a Used WiiSometimes offering a slightly discounted option, used units can be located on-line and in video game speciality shops. Finding a used unit may provide for faster purchase than being in the right place at the right time to purchase a new Wii. Customers considering the purchase of a used Wii, however, should balance the benefits of acquiring one of these popular units at a slightly lower price against the risks of a used unit. One of these risks includes nonexistent or short warranty periods. More important, one of the Wii's most popular game sets -- Wii Sports -- is included with the purchase of a new console but often does not come with used units. Wii Sports is not sold separately new. The only means of purchasing this game is either with a new unit or in used condition. These risks do not make the purchase of a used unit imprudent, but each customer should consider the pros and cons before venturing down the road to a used Wii. In addition to specialty video game shops, used (or possibly in rare instances new) Wii consoles may be available through a host of on-line purchasing methods -- from ebay to on-line classified ads such as Craig's List. Whether buying a used unit via a traditional bricks and mortar store or on-line, the same details as to warranties and inclusion of Wii Sports (as well as the Wii remote) should be obtained prior to purchase. Regardless of the hassles that may accompany attempts to locate a Nintendo Wii, it remains a popular and unique game system worth consideration for young and old.
